Professional Activities
Lloyd is a barrister and solicitor. He has over 20 years experience as a lawyer working in private practice and for the federal government. He has represented clients in a variety of complex matters. His preferred areas of practice are civil litigation, wills and estates and family law.
Lloyd has appeared at every level of court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada. While at law school, Lloyd won the gold medal in the Quebec Moot Court competition. He holds the record as the only lawyer to ever appear before the Supreme Court of Canada on the day after he was called to the bar.
Lloyd is the wills, estates and probate legal expert on the TV show “The Will: Outrageous Final Wishes” scheduled for broadcast in 2011 in the United States on the Discovery Channel and in Canada on Mystery TV Canada (see Firm News).

Lloyd is the creator, author and owner of Duhaime’s Law Dictionary, the world’s most popular private Internet legal dictionary. Duhaime’s Law Dictionary is recommended and linked by hundreds of government agencies, courts, law firms and law schools worldwide and is increasingly cited in decisions in Canada and the United States such as R. v. Thompson, 2010 ONSC 4691 and Keating v. Nova Scotia (Attorney General) (2001) 42 Admin. L.R. (3d) 66. The federal Department of Justice lists Duhaime’s Legal Dictionary at the top of its list of online legal reference material. Publications around the world routinely cite legal terms from Duhaime’s Legal Dictionary, including more recently Business Week and Forbes. Lloyd also created and owns the legal website Duhaime.org.
Lloyd frequently speaks at legal conferences in Canada and in Europe.
